March 17, Aidshilfe Hamburg officially launched the International Weeks Against Racism 2025 with a vibrant and impactful event that brought together a wide range of voices united in the fight against discrimination. The event served as a meaningful platform to foster dialogue, raise awareness, and promote solidarity. The gathering welcomed staff members, Health Ambassadors, the Supervisory Board, representatives of migrant communities, partner organizations like MenPoint, and many more allies in the cause. The program opened with heartfelt greetings from the management team, setting a warm and inclusive tone for the evening.
A highlight of the event was a powerful talk by Health Ambassador Orobiyi Armel Ogougbe, who shed light on the various forms of racism, including Anti-Roma and Sinti Racism, Antisemitism, and Anti-Black racism. His focus on anti-Black racism provided an insightful breakdown of structural racism, with examples of everyday microaggressions faced by Black individuals. This opened up an honest and emotional conversation about the impact of discrimination, particularly in schools and the long-term effects it can have on Black children’s growth and self-esteem.
Christelle Yobo, a representative of the Hamburg-Mitte district, followed with an inspiring statement emphasizing the importance of collective action in dismantling racism at every level of society. Throughout the event, Aidshilfe Hamburg reinforced its role as a supportive and appreciative organization dedicated to empowering marginalized communities. In an interview, Managing Director Omer Idrissa Ouedraogo highlighted the struggles disadvantaged groups face especially those living with HIV when trying to access healthcare or connect with broader society. This need for safe, inclusive spaces led to the creation of Café Afrika, an initiative by Aidshilfe Hamburg designed as a welcoming platform for social exchange and community-building. Café Afrika is coordinated by Hapsatou Oudini. She as well oversees the sector prevention network and migration of the organization. Complete Story / Topafric
